Primary

Presentation of Elementary
The elementary section welcomes pupils from CP to CM2 in a bilingual English-French environment. All lessons are taught in both languages, enabling the children to develop a solid and balanced command of French and English. We draw on curricula from around the world to offer pupils the very best in international teaching practices. Our team supports each child in their fundamental learning by encouraging independence, curiosity and the pleasure of learning. In a caring and structured environment, our pupils develop at their own pace and take part in a variety of projects that encourage cultural awareness and personal development.

Elementary programmes: clear, coherent and focused on success for all

Seminar at the CISL

Primary schools consists of two learning cycles: Cycle 2: fundamental learning (CP, CE1, CE2) Cycle 3: consolidation (CM1, CM2, 6ᵉ)

The aim of these two cycles is to ensure that every pupil masters the fundamental skills of reading, writing, counting, expressing themselves and living together.

Cycle 2 and 3 programmes

They aim to reinforce the fundamental skills of reading, writing, arithmetic and respect for others.
Designed to be simpler, readable and progressive, they promote the success of all pupils and improve the quality of teaching. Cycle 2 corresponds to classes from CP to CE2 and cycle 3 includes CM1, CM2 and 6ᵉ.

Organisation

Organised around the Common Base of Knowledge, Skills and Culture, they are based on five main areas:

  • Languages for thinking and communicating,
  • Methods and tools for learning,
  • The education of the individual and the citizen,
  • Natural and technical systems,
  • Representations of the world and human activity.

These programmes guarantee a coherent progression of learning and provide each pupil with the benchmarks they need to progress with confidence throughout their school career.

The aim of French language teaching is to develop listening and speaking skills, reading and writing skills and a command of how the language works.
As the years go by, students become independent readers and writers, able to understand, write and interpret various types of text while enriching their vocabulary and spelling.

All courses are taught in French and English, using a bilingual teaching method supported by a team of fully bilingual and qualified teachers.
This approach encourages a natural command of both languages, develops confidence in speaking and writing, and opens students up to cultural diversity.

In addition, pupils also benefit from Chinese lessons from CP level upwards.

Mathematics enables students to acquire rigorous reasoning and a taste for research.
Pupils learn to count, calculate, measure, reason and solve problems based on concrete situations.
The progression from cycle 2 to cycle 3 consolidates mastery of numbers, operations, magnitudes, shapes and measures.

Pupils gradually discover their natural, material, living and human environment.
They learn to observe, experiment, ask questions and formulate hypotheses.
In cycle 3, this teaching is enriched by experimental science and technology, to develop a spirit of enquiry and scientific curiosity.

EMC teaches people to live together, to respect others and to understand the values of citizenship.
Pupils develop a sense of responsibility, cooperation and solidarity.

These lessons encourage artistic creation, expression and sensitivity.
Pupils discover different art forms, experiment with a variety of techniques and learn to express their emotions through artistic practice.

PE contributes to motor development, self-confidence and team spirit.
Sports activities encourage cooperation, respect for rules and effort management.
